How WholesaleUp™'s selling_unit and case_pack_size fields work together. When to price per unit, per case, per pallet, or per lot — with worked examples and the four pitfalls that cause upload failures.
Access 30,600+ verified suppliers and exclusive wholesale deals with the best margins.
WholesaleUp™’s deal pipeline accepts 14 different selling units — from Per Piece to Per Container — but two fields decide whether a listing passes validation: selling_unit and case_pack_size. Get these right and margin verification works automatically.
case_pack_size. That’s how WholesaleUp™ converts your price back to a per-unit figure for margin and RRP verification.| Selling unit | Case pack size | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Per Unit / Per Piece | optional | Standard barcoded products sold one-by-one (phones, shoes, SKUs with EAN/ASIN). |
| Per Pair | optional | Items sold in pairs (earrings, shoes in some markets, glove sets). |
| Per Pack | required | Retail multipacks with a known unit count (3-pack, 6-pack, 12-pack). |
| Per Box | required | Trade boxes with a fixed SKU count. |
| Per Case | required | Outer cases or master cartons. |
| Per Pallet | required | Palletised B2B shipments. Pallet contents must be uniform. |
| Per Set | required | Matched bundles sold together (tool sets, crockery sets). |
| Per Roll | required | Fabric, film, wire sold by the roll. |
| Per Bottle | optional | Single-bottle pricing (wine, spirits, fragrance). |
| Per Bag | optional | Loose bagged goods (rice, coffee, pet food). |
| Per Container | required | Full 20' or 40' container trades. Pair with a verified manifest. |
| Per Lot | optional | Mixed or unmanifested stock where no per-unit price applies. Use a declared retail value instead. |
| Per Kilogram / Per Tonne | optional | Bulk goods priced by weight. |
| Per m² | optional | Sheet goods, flooring, textiles priced by area. |
On a €4.99 RRP, that's a 60% margin before fees — above the category's minimum margin floor, listing passes.
On a €12.99 RRP, 63% margin. Pallet trade passes margin checks.
Margin is verified against the declared retail value: 80% off retail. Lot trades use different verification.
If selling_unit is Pack, Box, Case, Pallet, Container, Roll, or Set, case_pack_size is required. Without it, WholesaleUp™ cannot verify margin against RRP and the listing will fail validation.
A €120 price with selling_unit 'Per Unit' on a product whose RRP is €5 will flag as impossible. Either the price is per case (say so) or the price is wrong.
Unmanifested returns pallets can't be priced per unit because the unit count is unknown. Use 'Per Lot' and supply a declared retail value or estimated unit count.
'€2,400 per pallet' is not actionable without a pallet size. A 500-unit pallet is €4.80 per unit; a 50-unit pallet is €48 per unit. Always state case_pack_size.
Use Per Lot when no meaningful per-unit price exists:
When you choose Per Lot, include a declared retail value (put it in the description or rrp field). WholesaleUp™ verifies margin against this value instead of the per-unit calculation.
Buyers skip listings they can’t compare. A clean “€4.80 / unit on a 500-unit pallet” almost always outperforms a bare “€2,400 per pallet” — the buyer shouldn’t have to do the maths.
